About Emergency Prepared
DRAFT: This page is waiting for review. Figures and wording may change before launch.
What this site is
Emergency Prepared (DRAFT name) is an independent guide for households in the UK. We take the UK Government’s Be Ready advice and help you turn it into a simple plan for your home.
Be Ready tells you what to think about before an emergency, such as a power cut, a flood or a problem with your water supply. We help you work out what that means for the people and pets in your home.
You can use our free tools to:
- build a checklist for your household
- work out how much water to store
- write a household plan you can print or keep on your device
- look up official flood and weather warnings for your area
What this site is not
We are not part of the Government. We are not linked to Be Ready, the Environment Agency, the Met Office or any emergency service.
We do not send warnings. We show some official warnings on our pages, but they may be late or missing. Always check the official source.
Not an official warning service. Always follow Floodline, the Met Office and emergency services.
If someone is in danger, call 999.
Who runs it
This site is run by Matt Harrison-Jones. We are a small team. The trading name, company details and business address are not confirmed yet (DRAFT). We will add them here when they are.
You can contact us at hello@emergencyprepared.co.uk (placeholder).
How we write our guides
We start with the official advice. We then explain it in plain English and add practical steps. Every guide lists the sources we used so you can check them yourself.
We review our guidance every 6 months. We also review it when Be Ready changes its advice. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed.
You can read more in our editorial and testing policy.
How we pay for the site
The guides and tools are free. To pay for the site, some of our product guides contain affiliate links. If you buy something through one of these links, the shop may pay us a small commission. It does not cost you anything extra.
We label every affiliate link with the words “(affiliate link)”. We never put affiliate links, adverts or product suggestions next to live warnings or local information.
The owner may launch a range of emergency kits in the future. If that happens, we will say so clearly on every page where those kits appear.
You can read the full details in our affiliate disclosure.
Your privacy
Our tools run in your web browser. The details you enter about your household stay on your device unless you ask us to email something to you. We do not use advertising cookies.
You can read how we handle your information in our privacy notice.
Making the site easy to use
We want everyone to be able to use this site. You can change the text size, line spacing and colours. We also offer Easy Read checklists, print versions and a glossary of words we use.
You can read more in our accessibility statement.
Tell us what you think
If something is wrong, unclear or hard to use, please tell us. Email hello@emergencyprepared.co.uk (placeholder). We read every message and we will correct mistakes.
